Since February 2020 the world faces a whole new reality. A pandemic turned everyones day to day life upside down. What feels like a totally new crisis, one that our generation never experienced, and on a scale that only our grandparents remember from the second world war, is in fact if we look further back in history nothing new. History always repeats itself. Ever since men became sedentary and men and animals started to live together there was an increase of infectious diseases in humans. When we think about historic pandemics, the plague jumps to everyone’s mind. The similarities with the corona pandemic today are striking, and traces of how the plague affected society in the Middle Ages can still be found in the city of Bruges. How did medicine and medical care evolve over time, how did past epicemics affect economics, religion, rituals, the arts, human realtions? A fascinating walk through time, looking at Bruges through the eyes of locals living through the different epidemics over the course of the past 2000 years.

Generally my tours take two hours walking through the city. The start, end and route of the tour can be customized to your needs and wishes. We can for instance pick you up at your hotel, the train station, your breakfast or lunch place. Each walk can be extented if desired and sites you really do not want to miss can be included. Each walk can be further personalized according to your interest and background knowledge without any extra charge, making each tour a unique and personal experience.

As a local of Bruges I know all the ins and outs of the city. Visiting Bruges should feel like visiting a friends hometown knowing there is someone to answer all your questions, be them historical or practical. I will be more than happy to advise you and to answer any questions you may have about your stay in the city.
